Big Bluff Ranch

I’m Tyler. I grew up here, left for college in LA chasing city lights, and the farther I went, the faster I wanted to come home.

When I returned, my mom asked the hard question: how was I going to make a living here? I’ve spent twenty-five years working on the answer.

Here is what I came up with: soil first, animals second, profit follows.

We raise our animals by following nature’s patterns. Dense groups. Short stays. Fresh ground. Long rest.

Our chickens live outside on pasture, moving regularly onto fresh grass. They eat a locally milled supplemental feed. No corn. No soy.

Does this regenerative thing work? Our proof is the creek. It barely ran when I was a kid. Now it runs year-round, clear and alive, and my daughter Evelyn plays in it. Same ground. Different management. Forty years.

My grandmother once told my grandfather he was just bluffing himself about being a rancher. So he named the place Big Bluff Ranch.

Turns out he wasn’t bluffing. We’ve been here since 1960, and we’ve been farming organically and regeneratively since the eighties — before most people had words for it.

None of this is the cheap way or the fast way. But after forty years, we’ve proven to ourselves that it’s the best way.
